Athena Aphaia West Pediment at Aegina
|
Restored group of Athena Aphaia West Pediment
About 500-490 BCE. Height 1.68 m. Munich Glyptothek 74.
- Both pediments house fights, with a central Athena, probably as patroness of the Greeks at Troy where the action seems to be set.
- The earlier pediment, west pediment, in the latest reconstruction proposed, presents duels beside Athena and symmetrical groups with the action moving to the corners
