Athena Chalcioicus
Bronze coin of the Emperor Gallienus (260-268 CE) showing the Athena of
Gitiadas. Original of about 570-530 BCE. London.
- The Spartan sculptor Gitiadas made a bronze Athena for her Temple at Troy (Athena Chalcioicus - 'of the brazen Temple').
- Her dress is also apparently covered with bronze plates carrying panels with myth scenes.
- Pausanias describes the figure and we may get an idea of it from coins.
