Athena Medici
440-430 BCE. Height 2.45. Louvre 3070, Paris.
- This statue of Athena is a copy of an original of about 440-430 BCE.
- She wears a chiton beneath peplos with belted overfall, aegis and cloak hanging at the back, once with shield and spear.
- Since several other copies are acrolithic it has been thought a copy of an original acrolith (by Phidias for Plataea; or by Kolotes for Elis), but has also been associated with Athena Promachos or the Athena of the Parthenon east pediment.
- Close to the Parthenon pediment style.
