Athenian Treasury East Side
About 490-480 BCE. Delphi.
- The Athenian Treasury at Delphi, now rebuilt on the site, is the best known of these monuments, one of the latest of the Archaic series and, like the earliest, of the Doric order.
- Pausanias says it was dedicated after Marathon (490 BCE) but style and architecture have suggested to some scholars a somewhat earlier date.
- It is becoming more fashionable now to believe that on this occasion Pausanias was right.
- Reconstruction by Tournaire.
