Head of Athena from Olympia
490 BCE, Height 0.22 m. Olympia Museum T 6, Olympia.
- This head of Athena is made of terracotta.
- The numerous fragments found together let us suppose that this fragment was part of an offering that contained several characters.
- A florid diadem crowns the snails carefully arranged in the forehead.
- Splendid work from the end of the archaic period.
- She was helmeted and carried shield and aegis.
- Apparently from a votive group including a fight, perhaps a Hercules adventure, of which some scraps survive.
