Athena with shield and spear standing between Ionic columns

  • Side A
    • Athena stands, facing right, holding a shield in her left hand and a spear in her upraised right hand.
    • The shield is turned so that the shield-device cannot be seen.
    • She wears a belted himation and a high crested helmet.
    • On either side of her is an Ionic column.
    • The one on the left supports a statuette of Athena holding a branch, on which is perched an owl and a trophy stand. Running down the shaft of this column is the inscription PUTHODÊLOS ARCHÔN ("Pythodelos [being] archon").
    • The column on the right is surmounted by a figure of Triptolemos in a winged chariot, behind which is a sheaf of corn. The inscription running down this shaft reads TÔN ATHÊNÊTHEN ATHLÔN ("One of the prizes from Athens").
  • Side B
    • To the right, stands Nike holding a palm branch.
    • She wears a white chiton and a dark cloak over it.
    • She holds a palm branch in her right (?) hand.
