Hercules, the Erymanthian boar and Athena
Archaic oinochoe from Vulci. Attributed to the Andocides Potter and Lysippides

- To the left is Hercules, wearing the lion skin and carrying a bow and quiver. He has grasped the boar by its left rear leg and lifted its hindquarters off the ground. This has caused its front legs to buckle under it, and it appears to be in a very helpless position.
- To the right stands Athena. She is wearing her snake aegis and a high crested helmet. She holds her spear in her left hand and gestures toward Hercules with her right.
- Cohen notes that Hercules wide and bushy mustache is typical of the Lysippides Painter's early period.
