Diomedes and Athena attacking Ares by John Flaxman

Diomedes and Athena attacking Ares
Drawing. John Flaxman, 1755-1826. British Museum, London.

  • Diomedes attacks Ares in a chariot while Athena, wearing Hades' helmet, drives the horses.
  • On the ground is Periphas the Aetolian whom Ares just killed.
  • With Athena driving his chariot Diomedes attacked Ares, and as a result of that fight and Athena's intervention in it Ares was wounded.
