Theseus abandoning Ariadne

- Athena ushers Theseus off to the left while Dionysus leads Ariadne off to the right.
- The scene depicted on the vase shows the mythological hero Theseus abandoning Ariadne on the island of Naxos. According to the myth, after helping Theseus defeat the Minotaur, Ariadne was left behind by Theseus while she was asleep. The vase also features Athena, the goddess of wisdom, and Dionysus, the god of wine, who later discovers Ariadne and takes her as his wife.
