Wedding of Peleus and Thetis
Painted by E. Burne-Jones (1872-1881). City Museum and Art Gallery,
Birmingham.
- It was at the feast after the wedding that the seeds of the Trojan war were planted when Eris (Strife) (far right) started a dispute between Hera, Athena and Aphrodite as to which was fairest.
- This in turn, led through the Judgment of Paris to the abduction of Helen, and it was through the union of Peleus and Thetis that Achilles, the great Greek hero, was born.
