The struggle for the tripod
Built around 525 BCE. East side of the Siphnian Treasury. Delphi Museum.
- The East pediment of the Treasury of the Siphnians illustrates the myth of the abduction of the delphic tripod (the key to the Pythia's powers) by Hercules.
- Athena, to the center, intervenes between Hercules, on the right, and Apollo, on the left, that pull on the tripod each to their side.
- Artemis, behind Apollo, keeps her brother by the arms.
